Announcing the CWR Titan!

We are pleased to announce that CWR will be creating a modern take on the LWB, wide body TVR Tuscan V8. Originally launched in 1968, the model followed in the footsteps of the famous Griffith 400. Our road legal car will recreate the iconic shape of the 60’s muscle car and will offer stunning performance within a simple, functional style. Amongst the CWR team is ex TVR competition manager Chris Schirle who worked under the late Peter Wheeler and was instrumental in designing the ground breaking 450 SEAC wedge car. Since leaving TVR, Chris has built many successful Classic TVR’s for FiA Historic racing and continues to apply his vast experience to classic competition cars in the CWR stable. There is still a lot of interest in older TVR’s and we believe there is an opportunity to offer a competitively priced, high performance package that will reflect the heritage and style of the original car.

We are keen to stress that CWR is not about to build cars that are passed off as originals. We fully understand the implication of what we are doing and will respect and preserve the divide between our version and original examples. The car will be called the Titan and will feature a Chevrolet LS3 V8 engine producing 480bhp, a 5 speed gearbox linked up with an LSD. While the body, chassis and suspension have been finalised, there is a huge amount of work yet to be done to ensure the car conforms to the new IVA standard. We are aiming for a functional, minimalist style that will not come up wanting when subjected to hard track day use.

Richard Attwood CWR Open Evening
22nd October 2009

We had an excellent turnout for the “Evening with Richard Attwood” from The Independent Porsche Enthusiasts Club (TIPEC) in October. Organised in conjunction with central region organizer Paul Bird, over 80 enthusiasts came along to CWR to hear and meet the ever approachable Richard Attwood Le Mans winner in 1970 and Grand Prix driver for BRM and Reg Parnell Racing)….interviewed by respected sports commentator Andrew Wilkins.

Richard was accompanied by his ex Jackie Stewart BRM P261 (which is prepared and run by CWR) and a Porsche 917, very similar to the one he won the Le Mans 24hr race in 1970 (kindly loaned by David Piper). The audience were not only treated to the rare sight of Richard, BRM P261 and Porsche 917 in the same room but were further treated to a close inspection of the new Porsche Panamera that Richard used to come to the event in.

CWR also exhibited its range of Porsche damper systems, fuel cells, race seats and race suits.

Comments from the TIPEC forum included:

"Brilliant evening. This was the Porsche equivalent of an evening with one of the surviving Beatles”.
"Well done guys, a fabulous evening with one of the greats".
"A truly enjoyable evening, with a true gentleman. Hung on his every word. And the 917 was awesome".

MD Mike Luck commented "This has been a very successful event and my hope is that we can extend an invitation to other clubs in the future”.

Hong Kong Classic Car Club (HKCCC) –
CWR preparation wins the Championship

Congratulations to Simon Westbrook who has achieved a back to back Championship win in the 2009 HKCCC series based at the Sepang Circuit in Malaysia.

Simon’s TVR 5000S is prepared and run by CWR and again cruised to Championship honours with a race to spare. The car has now changed hands and will be driven by fellow HKCCC competitor Mike Ricks. CWR will be on hand in 2010 to help Mike follow in Simon’s footsteps!

The Brit Car 500 6hr Race

Experienced racer Peter Lloyd and CWR Managing Director Mike Luck took part in the Britcar 500, 6 hour endurance race at Silverstone in September in the CWR E Type Jaguar. The E Type was a popular entry in an event that is normally associated with more modern race cars. The CWR team achieved a very respectable performance and completed fuel stops and driver changes without incident. Peter Lloyd commented “I have thoroughly enjoy the experience with the Mike and the team and is something I would love to do again”

The Spa 6 Hour Race: Brake Pad Endurance

CWR client Chris Conoley of Mass Race Engines won his class (10th overall) at the Spa 6 hour race using RC6E endurance brake pads from Carbone Lorraine supplied by CWR. Chris was driving a Marcos 1800 with Andy Tice. The CL brake pads ran under hard race conditions for 6 hours without needing to be changed, something that certainly contributed to their final race result.
